This is the third theme to the blog project 52Games. It is called nature. The game that comes to my mind is Spore.
It is a game from Will Wright the inventor of the Sims-Games and describes the und beschreibt quasi den "Course of nature".
The game is separated into different parts. You start in the cell phase. Here you play an micro organism. You have to eat weaker organisms or plants. If you eat both you may become an omnivore later on. You earn DNA points through this. With them you can upgrade your organism. This happens through additional body parts you can place free on your creature. If you reach a certain size you get into the next phase.
This is the creature phase. Depending on your previous choices you now have to eat meat, plants or both. You get some mission to get additional DNA points to upgrade your creature. Your goal is to become an ally with others or destroy them. If you have gained enough intelligence you get into the next phase.
This is the tribal phase. Here you are controlling a whole tribe, construct buildings, gather food. And ally with all other tribes or destroy them.
Now you get into the civilisation phase. You start with a town that you control. You design units, construct buildings and make some earnings through spice geysers, which you need to conquer. After you control the whole planet you can build a spaceship top come to the last and never ending phase.
It is the space phase. If you got an internet connection the game now downloads several creatures from other players randomly. The computer controls these in your game. You can now upgrade planets through terraforming. The planets have certain terraforming levels, higher levels can support more colonies.
You can also find artifacts that you can sell or that give you the possibility to change f.e. the colour of the planet. Of cause there is also some other inteligent live in space and you can destroy them or make some diplomatic relations.
Through the editor you have the possibility to create some nice creatures and bring them from the protozoa to a space exploring civilisation.
